PART-TIME LABOR AND EMPLOYMENT ATTORNEY

Extensio Law is a woman-owned employment law firm devoted exclusively to representing management. We are seeking an entrepreneurial-minded part-time attorney with 2–5 years of experience in employment litigation and/or employment law counseling. Qualified candidates must have a deep knowledge of the range of federal, state, and local laws and practices that govern employment relationships and the workplace. We are a small, agile team working on complex matters.  

This position is non-litigation. It is a part-time (20 hours per week, 400 billable hours per year) position that is also eligible for health insurance benefits. Qualified applicants must live and be licensed to practice law in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and/or Virginia. Our offices are in Washington DC and Annapolis, Maryland.  A hybrid arrangement is possible.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with cross-functional client teams to support and maintain compliance with all relevant laws as they relate to company handbooks, policies, and procedures. 

  • Partnering with human resources, operations management, and other client leaders to advise and assist with hiring, promotions, terminations, performance management, restructurings, and layoffs. 

  • Providing counsel on transactional matters including contract drafting and negotiation, acquisition-related advice, and review of compensation and benefits plans. 

  • Analyzing casework trends to produce strategic, proactive recommendations to clients that proactively address and mitigate risk. 

  • Proactively monitoring employment laws and providing advice on developments that may affect our clients. 

  • Representing clients in contract negotiations, mediations, and settlement discussions. 

  • Investigating highly sensitive internal employee relations matters  

  • In conjunction with the client training and human resources departments, developing and teaching legal training programs on subjects such as sexual harassment, managing within the law, and wage and hour compliance 

  • Drafting legal updates and blog posts 

Client Development 

  • Cultivating relationships with clients, including gaining a good knowledge of the client’s businesses, economic drivers, and market and sector requirements to ensure that our legal advice is relevant and commercial.     

What You’ll Get in Return

Our firm offers a collaborative work environment and a generous total compensation package. In accordance with Maryland’s Equal Pay for Equal Work-Wage Range Transparency Law, the expected salary range for this position (part-time: 50% of full-time, 20 worked hours per week, 400 billable hours per year) is between $60,000 and $75,000. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience, geographic location, and other job-related factors as permitted by law. This part-time position qualifies for the benefits below:
